“The Role of Youth in Making India Smart”

“The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow.”- Nelson Mandela.

Students of Atmiya Vidya Mandir recently participated in an essay writing competition organized by The Tata Group on July 31, 2024, for students in Grades 6 to 10. The objective of the competition was to inspire, motivate, and encourage students to think creatively about how youth can contribute to the nation’s growth, progress, and development.

The competition emphasised to cover four key areas: innovation, community services, entrepreneurship and participation in governance, in making India Smart.

The students worked on their final drafts in four steps:

  1. Brainstorming the topic: The initial stage of writing was to organise thoughts and create a plan. With the help of teachers, students actively discussed and shared their ideas on making India smarter through the four given, key areas. Subsequently, they were instructed to organize and present their ideas on paper.
  2. Research and Exploration: Students were allowed to browse the internet, to research, read and collect information related to their respective topics. As a result, they became well informed and acknowledged about putting forward their ideas. Thus, this research work not only provided them a broad understanding of their topic but also offered them an opportunity to understand their topic better.
  3. Editing the draft: The next stage in writing an essay was to gather ideas and prepare a rough draft. The students displayed visible excitement as they eagerly engaged in the process of writing. Students were encouraged to edit and review their topics multiple times before submitting the final draft. They remained highly focused and diligent in honing their draft.
  4. Final Write up: As the students were in the final stage of writing, the engagement was excellent; they were jubilant to justify the content of their topic. Students were excited to experience the results of their hard work and perseverance. Every participating student putting his best efforts into expressing their ideas collected on paper. The clock was ticking, signalling the need to accelerate the speed in order to complete the essay on paper, which they did well.

The competition concluded with the distribution of notebook labels, each featuring a QR code which can be scanned for a chance to win an iPad. Additionally, booklets highlighting the inspiring life of J.R.D. Tata—a pioneering industrialist who played a pivotal role in elevating India in the early years after independence—were handed out to students. The aim was to inspire them to explore Tata’s contributions to the nation and to encourage them to embody the same spirit of being a true Indian.

We commend the Tata Group for its significant investment in the youth, empowering students to enhance their potential, refine their talents, unleash their skills, and direct their energy through such competitions to prepare students towards nation-building.
